Tickets and reservations
57 items in total, 7 not yet done. One card per item, grouped by the day it is used; items already bought or booked are collapsed. The status is changed by the session that helps you buy tickets. This site only displays; it does not place orders for you. Prices and time slots are as of the day they were looked up; before ordering, go by the ticket page. Phone numbers and message drafts are under People to contact. What to do if you miss a train, how to add seat reservations, luggage, and how to buy each day in the Lake District: see Ticket notes.
Daily transport costs (per person)
Buses, metro, trains and boats; cable cars and sight admissions are not counted. Ranges and estimates are marked; tickets whose price depends on the order (the companions' return tickets, EC 140) are not counted. The daily breakdown is on each day page under "Transport costs for this day".

Buying per ride costs about 2,800 Ft, and a second 24-hour ticket costs 2,750 Ft and is still valid on the afternoon of 10-27, so buy the second one.

The official site gives opening hours 12–15 and 17–22 every day (Monday included), so 17:45 can be seated.
Eat until about 19:00, then walk across the Chain Bridge to Gravity after the meal (51′ walk, about 1 h, which helps digestion).

Transport tickets Buy on site BKK tickets (hotel → Budapest-Keleti, tram 1 then bus 80): use the second 24-hour ticket from 10-26

- Where
- BudapestGO app (official; scan the code or tap Boarding when you get on)
BKK price list ↗ - What if you miss it
- If you miss the 07:35 tram, I did not look up the next one's time; EC 140 leaves at 08:30, and arriving at the station before 07:52 leaves a 38-minute margin. Ticket notes →
- Notes
- Before leaving in the morning, check that the ticket in the app is still valid; validate it in the app after boarding.
Transport tickets Bought EC 140 Budapest-Keleti → Wien Hbf (direct)
- Deadline
- Completed
- Where
- Bought by a friend in the app (you said on 10-27 "today's ticket was bought by a friend in the app"); on 10-27 we already rode it to Vienna
- What if you miss it
- Go by the ticket (this time I only checked the rules inside Austria; this is an international train and I did not check): if the ticket is not tied to a train, take the next one; if it is tied to a train, ask at the Keleti ticket office. This train is direct, so there is no problem of a missed connection after an earlier delay. So be at the station before 07:52. Ticket notes →
- Notes
- Leave the hotel by tram 1 plus bus 80, arrive at Keleti at 07:47.
Transport tickets Buy on site Wiener Linien 7 Tage digital ticket (choose 10-27 as the start date)
- Deadline
- Before arriving at Hbf on 10-27
- Price
- €25.20 per person
- Where
- WienMobil app (official Wiener Linien app)
- Place
- Vienna Central Station (luggage storage, groceries)
- Notes
- The ticket is tied to one person, so bring your passport; valid until 11-03 00:59, which covers the supplement for the trip to the airport on the night of 10-31.
By my count it only pays off if you ride 9 or more times (break-even is 8.4 rides): about €43 saved for the 4 of us.
Don't buy a separate 24-hour ticket for 10-27.
Transport tickets Bought IC 742 Wien Hbf → Bad Ischl (change to REX at Attnang, change to the SV170 bus at Gmunden)
- Deadline
- Completed
- Price
- 4 people: Sparschiene €169.60 or FLEX group standard ticket €231.20, plus €12 for seat reservations for 4 (ÖBB site ticket page, checked in the main session 10-24); the user already bought it, go by the order for the amount
- Where
- What actually happened on 10-27: 17:57 IC 744, Wien Hbf platform 7 (Transitous, checked at 17:40; go by the big board at the station), 4 seat reservations in car 15 (111, 112, 115, 116, added on 10-27 at 14:15, €12); change at Attnang on 19:58 to R 3432 at 20:08, change at Gmunden to the SV170 bus at 20:28, arrive Bad Ischl 21:21
Bought: a friend bought it in the app (you said on 10-27 "today's ticket was bought by a friend in the app", and that counts the 16:57 one); the ticket is on the friend's phone, the 4 of us board together and the friend shows it at the ticket check, and everyone brings a passport
Backup: the 12-digit pickup code in the confirmation, print a paper ticket at an ÖBB ticket machine or counter at Wien Hbf, with photo ID
If seats are not reserved you can book them separately (choose seat reservation only, €3 per person)
Direct web link for 16:57 ↗ - What if you miss it
- Go by the ticket; both cases are written out. Sparschiene: if you miss the train yourself, the ticket is void and you must buy another (a standard ticket, which can be bought up to 1 minute before departure); if IC 742 is late and you miss the REX 70 or SV170: no need to rebuy, take the next workable service and ask the conductor, station staff or ÖBB customer service 05-1717 to confirm, screenshot the delay in Scotty, and a delay certificate can be requested within 7 days; the ticket page also lists REX 70 and SV170 as "cannot be exchanged", so play it safe and treat any miss of your own as void. Standard ticket (FLEX): any train from 10-27 to 10-28, if you miss one just take the next, no formalities. A seat reservation is only for the train booked, so the seat fee (€3 per person) is wasted if you change trains. Ticket notes →
- Place
- Bad Ischl train station (bus terminal)
- Notes
- The user said on 10-24 that it is already bought.
The ticket type (Sparschiene or FLEX) is still to be confirmed by the user; whether seat reservations were added is also still to be confirmed. Scotty marks this train "seat guaranteed only with a reservation".
The changes are only 7 minutes (Attnang) and 4 minutes (Gmunden, to the bus). Passenger names are spelled as on the passport; show your passport together with the ticket at the ticket check.
Alternative trains (the timetable if you miss it): 17:28 RJX to Salzburg, change to the 150 bus, arriving 21:29; 17:57 IC 744, arriving 21:21; the ticket types differ, and for whether you can switch see "What if you miss it" and the "Ticket notes" page. After arriving at 20:00 there is no bus to the lodging; take a taxi or make your own way.
Seat reservations: if not booked you can add them in the ÖBB app (choose the same train, tap More under "Best price", choose Ticket already exists, reserve a seat only, €3 per person); the official site does not say whether the IC has a seat map, so check whether the reservation page shows "Zur Sitzplatzauswahl".
Storage Buy on site Put two small suitcases in a Wien Hbf locker (arrive 11:20, pick up about 16:30)
- Deadline
- No booking; store them on the spot when we arrive (the user, 10-24: go when there is a need)
- Price
- From €4.30 (XL locker, 3-hour tier; the official site says "ab"); L locker from €3.30. The price for the 24-hour tier only shows after you choose a date and time.
- Where
- Book a Tamburi locker (official partner; the ÖBB page links here) ↗
ÖBB locker info ↗ - Place
- Vienna Central Station (luggage storage, groceries)
- Notes
- The Hbf lockers are on the lower level (Untergeschoss), and all of them are Tamburi "multifunctional lockers"; there are no old ÖBB coin lockers. On-site steps (ÖBB locker page, read 10-27): press a key on the screen → choose "Gepäck" → choose size and duration → enter your e-mail → photograph the pickup code → pay by card. ÖBB site: you can book on the spot or in advance, with the duration chosen in the order; the official site does not say the maximum storage time. Payment: the hauptbahnhofcity.oebb.at page says "contactless bank cards only (Bankomatzahlung)" and does not mention cash; if you book online, you pay online (my inference, not tried).
The pickup code is sent to your e-mail. Locker sizes (inside, height × width × depth): M 23, L 47, XL 71, width 41, depth 62 cm.
A small suitcase lying flat needs width ≤41 and length ≤62; two stacked with a total height ≤47 cm go in one L, otherwise use an XL, or one locker each. Fallback: there is no staffed luggage storage in the station; if full, use a Stasher partner (places lists the Schweizer Garden hotel, about a 5-minute walk, not rechecked).
Lodging Booked Bad Ischl lodging for 3 nights (10-27, 28, 29; check-in after 16:00, check-out before 10:00)

After arriving at Bad Ischl station at 20:00 on the evening of 10-27 there is no bus to the lodging (OÖVV official lookup, 10-24: no service from 20:05 that evening, the next is 05:48 on 10-28): take a taxi or make your own way (taxi price not checked).

Transport tickets Buy on site Buses (changed 10-28: 150 Bad Ischl → St. Gilgen; return St. Wolfgang 546 + 150)
- Deadline
- Before boarding
- Price
- Freizeit-Ticket: €26.50 on the OÖVV fares page (read 10-25), €24.90 on the FAQ page; go by what is shown when you buy. Single tickets (OÖVV official lookup, 10-24): Bad Ischl station → St. Wolfgang Markt €6.20; St. Gilgen bus stop → Bad Ischl station €7.10 (the lookup was Bad Ischl → St. Gilgen, and the reverse is assumed to cost the same). €13.30 per person in total, €53.20 for 4 people. Or one Freizeit-Ticket OÖ at €26.50, shared by 2 adults, 2 tickets for 4 people €53.00.
- Where
- Simplest: when boarding the 150, tell the driver "Zwei Freizeit-Tickets, bitte." The OÖVV FAQ says you can buy straight on regional buses; you usually pay cash on board, so have about €55
wegfinder app: choose Oberösterreich → weitere Tickets → Freizeit-Ticket → skip the discount code → create an account, confirm the e-mail → choose payment (steps from the tourist board site) ↗
OÖVV Ticket App (official; buy before boarding; tickets bought online are in your name, so bring your passport) ↗
ÖBB Tickets app (also an officially recognized sales point)
Buy from the driver on board (cash only; have coins and small notes, the driver's change is limited) - What if you miss it
- The OÖVV single-ticket terms say "for immediate departure" and do not say how long it is valid or whether it can be changed: buy right before boarding, not too early; if you miss it, buy another. The Freizeit-Ticket is unlimited from 09:00 that day to 03:00 the next day, so missing a bus costs nothing. If you miss the 18:34 150: there is one every 30 minutes (:04, :34; day page). Ticket notes →
- Place
- St. Wolfgang town
- Notes
- Recommended default: buy 2 Freizeit-Tickets (valid from 09:00, so the 09:24 bus is just right; the whole group travels together, so sharing one between 2 people is fine).
Reason: the price is almost the same (€53.00 vs €53.20), but there is only one code, no need to buy each time, and an extra ride (such as the 150 to Fuschl) costs nothing more.
The OÖVV official route table (read 10-25) lists the 150 as Bad Ischl station → Koppl, and the section from St. Gilgen back to Bad Ischl can use it too; this day ticket can also be bought in the ÖBB Tickets app.
The reason to choose single tickets would be not having 2 people tied together, which doesn't matter this day.
Ferries and cable cars are not included in the Freizeit ticket.
No ticket is needed to get to Bad Ischl station.
Schools are on holiday; recheck the services in ÖBB Scotty the day before.

If the boat is cancelled: 546 at 11:32 → Strobl 11:41, change to 150 at 11:45 → St. Gilgen 11:59, 14 minutes later than the boat, and it saves €11.80. Ticket notes →
- Place
- Wolfgangsee boat (St. Wolfgang → St. Gilgen)
- Notes
- The 11:05, 14:05 and 17:00 sailings run in any weather; the other sailings only run after an announcement.
With a Salzkammergut Card, the whole-lake ticket is €29.40; we only ride one section this day, so don't buy it.
Admission Buy on site Zwölferhorn cable car round trip (only if the weather is good)
- Deadline
- At the valley station, on site; whether to go up depends on that day's weather
- Price
- Students round trip €32 (adults €36); you must show proof, and the official site does not say whether ISIC is accepted
- Where
- Official online shop (you can also buy at the window) ↗
Official prices and opening hours ↗ - Place
- Zwölferhorn cable car and summit loop
- Notes
- In October every day 09:00–17:00 (official site).
The forecast has showers from the afternoon of 10-28: check the sky once when you arrive in St. Gilgen at 11:45, and if the summit is covered by cloud or it is raining, don't go up and use the second plan.
Admission Buy on site K³ climbing gym bouldering (opens 15:00 on Wednesdays)
- Deadline
- At the gym, on site
- Price
- Students (under 26, with ID) €11.50, 4 people €46 (pretix ticket page, read 10-28: choose "Student bis 26 Jahre"); shoe rental €4.00 (old price), rented at the bar of the restaurant in the gym, open 12–20 every day in bad weather
- Where
- Official online ticket (pretix) ↗
You can also buy on site by phone - Place
- K³ climbing gym (bouldering)
- Notes
- The official site says day tickets can be bought online or on site by phone; the opening hours page shows the old version from 2023-09 (Mon–Fri 15–22, Sat and Sun 10–20), and whether it changed for the school holiday, see the phone call in the next item.
10-29 Thu Lake District day 2 · all 4 walk the three Gosausee lakes (boarded the delayed 541) See day page →
Transport tickets Buy on site Hallstatt ferry Markt ↔ train station (not in the day plan; buy only if you take it)
- Deadline
- Before boarding the boat
- Price
- One way €4.00; return €8.00; cash only
- Where
- Buy with cash at the pier
- What if you miss it
- The last boat from Markt → train station is 17:45, and if you miss it there is no other boat; the official site clearly says connections are not guaranteed, and it may stop in bad weather. This day's route does not use the ferry, so buy only if you take it. Ticket notes →
- Place
- Hallstatt ferry (town ↔ train station)
- Notes
- This day's route is a bus to Hallstatt Nord and a walk to Marktplatz, so the ferry is not used.
The official site clearly says connections are not guaranteed.
Transport tickets Buy on site Bus 541 (it was late) → 542 to Gosausee; return 16:52 542 → 541 (if we take the 11:45 one, the last return is 17:47)
- Deadline
- Before boarding
- Price
- 2 Freizeit-Tickets, €53.00 in total (€26.50 each, shared by 2 adults; one OÖVV FAQ page says €24.90, go by what you actually pay). Single tickets: about €20.80 per person (€10.40 there, and the return is estimated at the same price in reverse), about €83.20 for 4 people.
- Where
- When boarding the 541, buy from the driver: "Zwei Freizeit-Tickets, bitte"
OÖVV Ticket App (official; no signal in the valley, so buy at the lodging first if you want to use it) ↗
The ÖBB Tickets app or wegfinder can also sell this day ticket - What if you miss it
- The Freizeit-Ticket is unlimited from 09:00 that day to 03:00 the next day, so missing a bus costs nothing. What actually happened on 10-29: the 541 was late and we rode it to Gosaumühle; the 542 timetable says 10:45, and if we missed it, take a taxi or wait for 11:45 → 12:09 (second and third plans on the day page). Last services: Zwieselalmbahn 17:47; Hallstatt Lahn 19:00 (Nord 19:04), and if you miss it there are only taxis (about 20 km, price not checked). Ticket notes →
- Place
- Gosausee (front lake to back lake)
- Notes
- Recommended default (changed 10-29 01:47, D-60): buy 2 Freizeit-Tickets.
Reason: the 541 runs after 09:00, so the day ticket is valid; the 4 of us travel together all day, so sharing one between 2 people is fine; it saves about €30 over single tickets, and costs nothing more whether or not we go to Hallstatt.
When the plan was to leave early and walk separately, single tickets were recommended (see git history).
Tickets bought in the app are in your name, so bring your passport.
Admission No longer needed Gosaukammbahn cable car round trip (3 companions; I walk the three lakes and don't ride)
- Deadline
- At the valley station, on site

- Return €24.50 per person (youth €22.10; no student price)
- Where
- Buy on the spot at the valley station ticket window

- Gosaukammbahn cable car (Zwieselalm, Gosau)
- Notes
- Changed 10-29 01:44: all 4 of us walk the three lakes and don't ride the cable car (D-60).
Original note: the official site does not give the last descent time; if it is foggy or rainy the view is gone, so switch to the walk around the front lake.
Reservations No longer needed Seewirt Zauner (Hallstatt Marktplatz 51) dinner for 4 people
- Deadline

- Where
- Book by phone (the official page says "reservations required for organizational reasons")
- Contact
- Seewirt Zauner: Message draft and phone →
- Place
- Seewirt Zauner (Hallstatt Marktplatz)
- Notes
- Changed 10-29 10:24: after missing the planned 541, we are no longer going to Hallstatt (D-61), so no booking is needed.
Before that (D-60): Hallstatt in the evening became optional (second plan, decided only at Gosaumühle at 17:17); if you want to go, call to book before leaving, and if unsure don't book and just go to Bräugasthof when you arrive.
The opening hours page says 11:30–14:30 and 18:00–21:30; the tourist board listing says hot food until 20:30, open on Thursday.
Hallstatt has few dinner options: Muk's closes at 17:00, and Zum Bader is closed Wednesday and Thursday.
Fallback: Bräugasthof Hallstatt (phone, the page also says to reserve; closed Wednesday, open Thursday).
When 10-28 and 10-29 are swapped so Hallstatt falls on Wednesday, Bräugasthof is closed, leaving only Seewirt.
10-30 Fri All 4 to Hallstatt (the only sunny day), arrive in Vienna at 19:03, check in, the "∞" at the Votivkirche, 21:00 Wiener Grill Haus See day page →
Transport tickets Bought Me: Bad Aussee → Wien (Standard-Ticket, via Bad Ischl, Attnang-Puchheim), any train 10-30 to 10-31
- Deadline
- Completed
- Price
- Actually paid €39.40 (10-24) = Youth Card standard ticket €33.10 + 1-hour bus ticket €3.30 + seat reservation €3
- Where
- It is in the ÖBB app under "Current tickets" (screenshot 10-30); also in the 10-24 purchase confirmation e-mail
At the ticket check show the ticket, the Youth Card (Vorteilscard Jugend) and your passport - What if you miss it
- The Standard-Ticket is not tied to a train (the ticket says "Keine Zugbindung, volle Flexibilität") and is valid 10-30 to 10-31: if you miss one train take the next, no formalities. The seat reservation is only for IC 743, so if you change trains that €3 is wasted. The 1-hour ticket for Altaussee ↔ Bad Aussee is only valid 14:52–15:52 and isn't usable today. Ticket notes →
- Place
- Bad Ischl train station (bus terminal)
- Notes
- Checked on 10-30 11:14 against the ÖBB app screenshot the user sent: ticket type Standard-Ticket, route über Bad Ischl * Attnang-Puchheim * Wels * Neulengbach / Tullnerfeld, gültig 30.10.–31.10., with Vorteilscard Jugend; the seat reservation is on IC 743, second class.
ÖBB e-mail 10-30 06:29: the car order of this train changed today, the times did not.
Transport tickets Bought 3 companions Bad Ischl → Wien Hbf (with two suitcases)
- Deadline
- Completed
- Where
- Ticket already bought, a standard ticket (the user said so 10-30 12:34), not tied to a train; the "über" route line was not seen
- What if you miss it
- Check the ticket. Do not take WESTbahn (WB trains); an ÖBB ticket is in principle not accepted there. Standard-Ticket: not tied to a train, so any train on this route works within its validity; ride the same train as me. Sparschiene: only valid on the train it was bought for; the original 09:24 / 09:56 has already passed, so it must be bought again. If the route says über Salzburg or includes the 150 bus: take the 150 to Salzburg and change to the RJX (Bad Ischl 16:24 → 20:32, 17:24 → 21:32), do not go via Attnang. Ticket notes →
- Notes
- The user said on 10-30 08:27 "we both bought full-price tickets"; at 12:34 said the friend's ticket "really is a standard ticket" too.
I have not seen a screenshot of the route on the ticket.
Transport tickets No longer needed (user said on 10-30 at 23:32 that they got back without buying a transport ticket) City ticket in Vienna for the evening return on 10-30: not bought (the plan was to buy a 24-hour ticket for the return)

- On 10-30 at 20:13 the user asked whether it would be better to buy a transport ticket tomorrow (D-72); the plan at the time was to buy a 24-hour ticket for the return, valid until the evening of 10-31.
At 23:32 the user said "I got back now without a transport ticket, I'll buy one tomorrow morning after getting up", so this item was changed to "not bought"; for the 24-hour ticket see bk-1031-wl24.

- On 10-30 we are not going to Altaussee; all 4 go to Hallstatt together (D-63).
The original way to buy (one purchase in the ÖBB app gave an OÖVV single €9.00 + a Steiermark hourly ticket €3.30) is in the git history.

- Notes
- 19:00 is the latest pick-up time: the last bus leaves Hallstatt Lahn at 18:00 and reaches Bad Ischl at 18:45, which leaves only 11′ to get the bags and catch the 18:56.
It is not Kofferdepot (a guess in the 11:3x notes, corrected by the user at 12:34).
Storage No longer needed My backpack (originally to be carried on the way to Altaussee)

Lodging Booked Lodging for 4 in Vienna on the night of 10-30: the hostel (4-person room with bathroom)

Non-refundable and cannot be changed; not showing up for check-in that day counts as a no-show. Room: 4 bunk beds and a private bathroom, a locker under each bed, towels must be rented at the front desk; guests must be 18 or older. The hotel e-mail reminds guests to do online check-in in advance, which needs everyone's ID; only the user can do this step. If it is not done, you can still do it at the front desk.
there is a bar downstairs. I did not ask whether luggage can be stored after check-out.

Transport tickets Bought (the user said on 10-31 at 13:51 "I did buy that nine-euro, um, 24-hour ticket now") Wiener Linien 24 Stunden Wien digital ticket (24-hour city ticket for Vienna; I bought it on 10-31 at about 13:50, valid until about 13:50 on 11-01)
- Deadline
- Before the first ride
- Price
- €9.70 per person (digital ticket)
- Where
- WienMobil app (official Wiener Linien app)
- Place
- Vienna Central Station (luggage storage, groceries)
- Notes
- On 10-30 at 23:32 the user said they got back without buying a transport ticket and would buy one tomorrow morning (D-73); the plan was to buy it at 09:40.
On 10-31 at 11:35 the user said that if it is not far they would walk or buy a single ticket (D-74), and also did not buy one in the morning. D-74 recommended walking in the daytime and buying a full-trip ticket in the evening; at 13:48 the user said walking between the two climbing gyms is too far and the last day should be easy, and "if I only thought about saving money, that would be wrong", and at 13:51 said they had bought the 24-hour ticket (D-75).
The math: a 24-hour ticket €9.70 plus the airport-section top-up €2.30 is €12.00; two single rides in the afternoon (€3.00 each) plus the full-trip ticket come to about €11.50, only €0.50 less, and with the 24-hour ticket you can ride freely and avoid long walks. The ticket is tied to one person; bring your passport.
Prices: the 24-hour ticket is from wienerlinien.at (since 2026-01-01); the single €3.00 and full-trip €5.50 are from news and wien.info and were not checked on the official site.
Transport tickets Buy on site Going to the airport in the evening: airport-section top-up (I already have the 24-hour ticket, so I only top up the "Vienna city limit → airport" section); 22:42 Railjet arrives 22:57, or 22:53 REX arrives 23:15
- Deadline
- Before boarding
- Price
- The airport-section top-up is about €2.30; if you really cannot buy a top-up, buy the full-trip ticket for about €5.50 (€3.20 more)
- Where
- ÖBB Tickets app: search Wien Hbf → Flughafen Wien and look for the option that only tops up the section from the city limit to the airport (€2.30); I did not check how to pick it in the app
If you cannot find it, use an ÖBB ticket machine or counter inside Hbf, say you have a 24-hour ticket and only want to buy the airport section - What if you miss it
- A ticket bought on site is not tied to a train: if you miss 22:42 and 22:53, take the last train, 23:53 REX → 00:15. If all trains are missed: at Wien Hauptbahnhof Süd (south side of the main station) take the VAB 1 airport bus, 23:15 → 23:40, or 03:15 → 03:40 and 03:45 → 04:10 on 11-01 (Transitous checked 10-31 13:50); the bus does not accept the Vienna city ticket, and a single costs about €11 (third-party figure, official price not found). On Saturday night the U1 runs all night. Ticket notes →
- Place
- Vienna Central Station (luggage storage, groceries)
- Notes
- The D-74 plan to "buy a full-trip ticket Wien Friedensbrücke → airport in the evening" has been replaced by D-75: the user said on 10-31 at 13:51 that the 24-hour ticket was bought, so only the airport section is topped up. Since 2026-09-07 the S7 only runs to St. Marx and does not stop at Wien Mitte or Rennweg; REX 7 and Railjet still run Hbf ↔ airport as usual; the CAT has been replaced by a bus between Wien Mitte and the airport (wien.info, read 10-31).
When searching trips from Hannovergasse, the routing recommends the CAT bus or FlixBus, both more expensive than the REX, so we do not take them.
Transport tickets No longer needed (the user already bought a 24-hour ticket on 10-31 at 13:51, D-75) Wiener Linien single digital ticket (only for the daytime stretch that needs a ride)
- Deadline
- Before boarding
- Price
- €3.00 per ride (digital ticket; paper ticket €3.20)
- Where
- WienMobil app (official Wiener Linien app)
- Place
- Vienna Central Station (luggage storage, groceries)
- Notes
- The user said on 10-31 at 11:35 "if it's not far I can walk or buy a single ticket or something" (D-74).
One single ticket covers one trip in the same direction, with transfers allowed on the way.
A digital ticket is tied to the person; bring your passport.
The single ticket price comes from news reports (ORF, vienna.at, derstandard, etc.) and was not checked on the Wiener Linien single-ticket page.

- Place
- Kunsthistorisches Museum (incl. dome café)
- Notes
- On 10-31 at 11:35 the user changed the plan to go to the climbing gym after lunch with free churches in between; the time for Plan B (museum in the morning) has passed, so do not buy (D-74). On 10-30 at 23:32 the user said they wanted to spend less and just wander through a museum or church; for 10-31 the recommendation became a free morning walk in the old town, with the Kunsthistorisches Museum optional (D-73); if you want to see Monet, go to the Albertina instead (there is no Monet or Van Gogh here). Official site (read 10-24): since 2026-09-08 entry is only with a timed reservation, one entry with unlimited stay; tickets cannot be exchanged or refunded, so first ask how many people are going before buying. The ticket page has a "students (University/College)" rate of €19; bring a student ID and passport, they check at the entrance.
Free for under 19, register at the entrance. The museum has a free cloakroom and lockers (coats, bags) but no luggage storage, so do not bring big suitcases.

- On 10-30 at 23:32 the user said they wanted to go to a bigger climbing gym tomorrow (D-73); on 10-31 at 11:35 this changed to going to a climbing gym after lunch, possibly more than one, with the one that has the Halloween event in the evening (D-74); this one is the first gym in the afternoon.
Why this one: the official home page says 1400 m² of floor space (Grundfläche), open Sat 07:30–22:00, and the home page shows no special event on 10-31.
Address Schloßgasse 10-12, 1050 Wien; about 27′ walk from Hbf, or take the 13A to Leibenfrostgasse and walk 7′.
There are lockers; leave the carry-on bag here.
Bring your own climbing shoes, do not rent (old system D-106; the user said it again on 10-31 at 11:35).

- The user said on 10-31 at 11:35 to go to the climbing gym with the Halloween event in the evening (D-74).
On 10-31 only this gym holds the Team Spirit Halloween team competition: people who sign up are put into random teams (up to 5 per team), and you can sign up alone; those who come in Halloween costume are placed in teams first and the team gets 5 points; difficulty levels 1–5 (5A–7A+) are chosen by each person. Not stated: whether signing up costs extra, whether people not in the competition can climb as usual, and when it ends; ask at the front desk.
31.10 is also this gym's route-changing day (Schraubtag). From the old town: take the 17:10 U4 from Schwedenplatz to Friedensbrücke, then walk 13′; to go back to Hbf, leave at 21:51, U4 + U1, arrive 22:21.

- Belvedere official ticket page (choose Upper Belvedere, 10-31, 16:00, "Students under 26") ↗
- Place
- Upper Belvedere (Klimt's The Kiss)
- Notes
- The user said on 10-30 at 19:12 that they had already seen the Upper Belvedere on 10-27 (that day they only saw Karlskirche and the Upper Belvedere), so it is not planned for 10-31 (D-71).
It was originally the recommended default for the easy version of 10-31 (D-67). On 10-27 the Upper Belvedere was originally planned for 4 people at 12:00 (bk-1027-belvedere), and the log says "12:16 tram O to the Belvedere" at midday on 10-27, but whether we actually went was not recorded: if you have been, do not buy again, and in the afternoon sit longer at Café Sperl instead, or go up to the dome platform in Karlskirche. Bring a student ID and passport.
Admission No longer needed Karlskirche interior (including the dome platform, treasury and audio guide)
- Deadline
- Not needed
- Price
- Students €6 (adults €9.50)
- Where
- Buy on site at the church entrance
- Place
- Karlskirche (incl. dome platform)
- Notes
- The official site does not say "free after 18:00"; to go inside you must buy a ticket before 18:00, and after 18:00 you can only see the outside and the pool in front.
The user said on 10-30 at 19:12 that they had already seen Karlskirche on 10-27 and it is not planned for 10-31; the evening of 10-30 also changed to Votivkirche (D-70, D-71).
Admission No longer needed Schönbrunn Palace interior (State Apartments); the garden is free
- Deadline
- Not needed
- Price
- State Apartments adult €30, student €23 (ISIC required); Palace Ticket €42, student €31.50; Classic Pass €49 (includes garden, maze, Gloriette); Gloriette plus maze €16
- Where
- The only official online ticket seller, imperialtickets.com ↗
Official site, prices and opening hours ↗ - Place
- Schönbrunn Palace
- Notes
- On 10-30 at 18:36 the user said they want an easier day tomorrow (sleeping at the airport in the evening), so no Schönbrunn Palace on the afternoon of 10-31 (D-67). The official home page says: palace 08:30–17:30, garden 06:30–19:00 and free; real tickets are only sold online at imperialtickets.com, so do not buy from other sites (the official site warns about fake sites). The palace interior has fixed entry times (from the places record; I did not open the booking page to check the 10-31 slots); the student price comes from the previous round of official-site notes, the home page only lists adult and child prices, so check when ordering. Whether to go inside the palace is up to you: just walking the garden, the outside of the Gloriette and the views is fine without a ticket.
Admission Buy on site (alternative plan) Bouldering at boulderbar Hauptbahnhof (the alternative for the evening of 10-31: go here if not joining the team competition)
- Deadline
- At the gym, on site
- Price
- Student €13.10 (ages 18–26, bring a student ID), adult €14.50; I bring my own shoes and do not rent; chalk bag €2.00
- Where
- Buy on site (front desk)
Official site, gym page ↗
Official site prices ↗ - Place
- boulderbar bouldering gym (Central Station branch)
- Notes
- D-72 originally recommended this gym, and D-73 changed to Blockfabrik.
D-73 said this gym "has a Halloween event on 10-31", which is wrong: the event page (read 10-31 at 11:3x) states that Team Spirit Halloween Edition is only at Hannovergasse (bk-1031-hannovergasse), and this gym has no event on 10-31. From 10-31 at 11:39 this is the alternative plan for the evening (D-74): if you do not want to join the team competition, or are tired, come here; after climbing it is about a 10′ walk to Hbf to take the REX, which is the least hassle.
Storage No longer needed My carry-on bag (no storage needed)
- Deadline
- Not needed
- Where
- Carry your bag with you all day; the gym has lockers
- Place
- Vienna Central Station (luggage storage, groceries)
- Notes
- The user said on 10-31 at 11:35 "for one person, I don't have to pick up a suitcase" (D-74).
I only have a carry-on bag, as the overview "People and preferences" has long said; D-71 and D-73 followed the companions' routine and scheduled "suitcases left at the front desk, pick up when back at 20:00" for me, which was a planning mistake.
Storage No longer needed The companions' two small suitcases: from check-out on 10-31 until leaving for the airport
- Deadline
- Ask the front desk when checking in on the evening of 10-30
- Price
- Whether the front desk charges for storing luggage was not asked; Hbf lockers from €4.30 for an XL one
- Where
- The lodging is the hostel (booked 10-27): leave the suitcases in the room, come back to pick them up, check out before 11:00
Alternative: Hbf lockers (Tamburi) ↗ - Place
- Vienna Central Station (luggage storage, groceries)
- Notes
- On 10-30 at 19:12 the user said the companions go to Swarovski in the morning, return to the hostel for the suitcases, and go to the airport in the morning (D-71), so no storage is needed.
The day page originally said to put them in a Hbf locker at 09:10 and pick them up at 13:52.
Recommended default: if the front desk can store them, leave them at the lodging's front desk; if not, use the Hbf lockers.
The earlier version written for the hotel first planned (its official site says free storage is possible) no longer applies.

Transport tickets Booked Flight Vienna → Stockholm (departs 07:45)
- Deadline
- Completed
- Where
- Booked and paid (Kiwi booking; you do check-in yourself)
- Notes
- Carry-on bag only; sleeping at the airport. Ryanair online check-in is open until 2 hours before departure (05:45); after that, check-in is only at the desk, for an extra fee.
Non-EU/EEA passports must first get a stamp at the Ryanair Visa/Document check desk before security; without the stamp you cannot board and get no refund; the desk opens at least 2 hours before departure and closes at 07:05 (40 minutes before departure); for some nationalities, passport verification can be done during check-in in the app, and if it passes you do not need to go to the desk (Ryanair Help Centre, main session's search summary on 10-31 at 13:5x; the help page returned 403 and I did not read it directly).
Gate closes at 07:15 (old note, not rechecked).
Terminal: a third party says check-in at T1, security and boarding at T3 (a 2021 account); go by the boarding pass (D-75).
