Coordinates are the Salzbergbahn valley station; the valley section is 4.5–5.7 km with an ascent of about 430 m; the zigzag path (Serpentinenweg) straight up to the Salzberg from town is closed until spring 2027, so you can only go up from Echerntal; walkable in rain but slippery; (added) popularity counted by myself (0 Xiaohongshu posts). The half-day version walks only the valley section to the Waldbachstrub waterfall and back the same way, 2–2.5 h; the zigzag path is closed until spring 2027, so Salzberg can only be reached from Echerntal; I suggest the valley section only: AllTrails marks the whole loop "glacier potholes–Waldbachstrub–Salzberg" as Hard and [CLOSED] (10.8 km, ascent 749 m), and the zigzag path from town straight up to Salzberg is closed until spring 2027 (hallstatt.net road-closure page, read 10-22); popularity counted by myself (0 Xiaohongshu posts)

OptionalAnyoneAttersee boat trip

Attersee-Schifffahrt
Alternative, not in the current plan (looked up only because the lake starting with A was first taken to be Attersee); far from Bad Ischl, and the direct bus does not run on 10-30 because of school holidays, so only a backup. In October the scheduled boats run the south route only on Wednesday and Saturday
Not scheduled for any day yet
Admission Adult Rundkurs Nord €22.00; Rundkurs Süd €33.00; Große Seerundfahrt (one-day hop-on hop-off) €41.00; there are also section tickets (e.g. Attersee–Unterach one way, see the price table on the official site)
Details

Open Scheduled boats run until 01.11.2026 (Spätsaison 5.10–1.11). But the water is low: Seewalchen, Kammer and Parschallen are temporarily not served, and Rundkurs Nord is mostly not running right now (official daily-update page 2026-10-22: no scheduled boat that day, next one expected 10-24). Rundkurs Süd runs only on Wednesday and Saturday in October (10-28 Wed, 10-31 Sat): two departures, Attersee 11:45 (from Weyregg 11:23) and 14:15, arriving at Attersee at 14:05 and 16:35. Departures follow the daily-update page, which is published from 17:00 the day before, and boats are cancelled in bad weather.

Youth ticket No youth price

Combo ticket No combo with the cable car found (in July there is an Atterseebahn combo of Bahn+Schiff, but not in October)

Student ticket No student price (the official site has three tiers: adult, children 6–14.99 years, group or ermäßigt; the ermäßigt price applies only to groups of 15 or more)

Note Differs from the old third-party price: the third party says adult €36, while the official site for 2026 has Süd €33, Nord €22, grand tour €41. Attersee is far from Bad Ischl and not in the itinerary, only a backup. ISIC: not stated on the official site.

Student ticket No student price (the official site only has adults from age 16 and children and youth ages 3–15; the other discounts are for disability, over-60s on Mondays, and the family card)

Ferien" (the official site does not say which days); this is not stated on the official site and was not found. Towel €8.50, bathrobe €10.50. Whether the summit restaurant is open at the end of October was not verified; (added) opinions are mixed: a Xiaohongshu blogger "unbeatably beautiful! Pick a sunny day", Jiaozi "top class"; Ximalaya Shan "asked a local, who said the little train is not really worth it"; Xiaohongshu says round trip €40, the official site €61; (10-22) when only one cable car is recommended, this one is not chosen: the price is about double Zwölferhorn, there is no student price, only the fixed A trains are guaranteed to run, and at 1,783 m the summit has a higher risk of snow and fog

Open 10/27–11/1 every day. St. Wolfgang Markt → St. Gilgen: 11:05→11:45, 14:05→14:45, 17:00→17:45 run every day; 09:32, 12:35, 15:35 run only in good weather. St. Gilgen → St. Wolfgang Markt: 09:20→10:00, 12:00→12:45, 15:00→15:45 run every day; 10:20, 13:30, 16:30 run only in good weather. The boat ends service at St. Wolfgang at 18:00; runs every day until 11-01. 10-25 and 10-26 use the Nachsaison timetable (7 Sep–26 Oct, daily; PDF not read); 10-27 to 11-01 use the Herbstfahrplan (daily). Herbstfahrplan regular trips (not counting the grey-background "1" trips): St. Wolfgang Markt→St. Gilgen 11:05 (arrives 11:45), 14:05 (14:45), 17:00 (17:45, last); in the other direction St. Gilgen→St. Wolfgang Markt 09:20 (arrives 10:00), 12:00 (12:45), 15:00 (15:45), 18:00 (arrives 18:43, drop-off only, the boat's terminus is St. Wolfgang). Grey-background trips are "verkehrt nur nach Verlautbarung" (only run after an announcement), so do not count them as certain trips. Trips may be cancelled in bad weather.

Youth ticket No youth price, only a child price (4–14.99 years)

Combo ticket There is a combo ticket, but it is only Schafbergbahn+boat. "Kombikarte Berg & Schiff 1 Tag": includes a Schafbergbahn round trip and a boat round trip from the chosen pier; from St. Gilgen or Fürberg €78.70, from Strobl €73.40, from Gschwendt/Ried-Falkenstein/St. Wolfgang €61.00. For comparison: Schafberg round trip €61 + St. Gilgen–St. Wolfgang boat round trip €23.60 = €84.60, so the combo from St. Gilgen saves €5.90. A season-card-style Kombiticket costs €83.50 (only sold at the ticket window). No combo with Zwölferhorn found.

Student ticket No student price (no student or ISIC item in the price list)

Note Salzkammergut Erlebnis-Card holders: WolfgangseeTicket €29.40.
